Kyara Orlando

I am from Brazil, raised in a coast city called Salvador so I was born with a foot in the sea. My love for nature comes from my mother's fierce work with environmental conservation and from spending all of my childhood holidays in my father's farm swimming in the Piau river, riding horses, listening to the birds, learning to build a fire and listening to the stories of the native women while we harvested manioc.

I started studying theatre at the age of 12 and eventually graduated in Acting from the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA). I performed in several theatre productions in Brazil. I moved to London in 2010 where I completed an MA in Performance Making at Goldsmiths University with Distinction. In 2012 I co-founded CACTUS, a movement-based performance collective with Palestinian choreographer Noora Baker.

My healing path began in 2013 when I was initiated into Shamanism by Shaman Alba Maria from Terra Mirim Community and today I am part of a team that facilitates her work in the UK. In 2014 I was trained as an Ayurvedic Yoga Massage practitioner by Ma Prem Purnima.

I create performances in collaboration with artists from different backgrounds and disciplines. In the past years my artistic practice has been increasingly influenced by my deep connection with nature and self-investigation. I am the creator and host of ‘Art for Healing’ live Instagram show.
I am an Actor, Performance Maker, Shamanic Practitioner, Facilitator
